THE AUROVILLE TANGO CALENDAR

Edition #13  | 11-15th March 2026

Our Weekly Discipline

Auroville Tango is organised as a collective, different individuals take up responsibilities across the week. Each one contributes in their own way – be it curating a session, DJing, teaching a class, holding a space, or organising support.

On Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays you will find us in our Tango Home, Harmony Hall at Bharat Nivas.

On Tuesday, Thursdays and Saturdays Tango more classes, practicas are organised by independent individuals.

Classes

We offer regular classes on Mondays – Introduction to Tango for new dancers, and Improver Class for dancers from a few months to more than a decade of experience.

We aim to give something of value to all participants at different points in their journey, and that challenges us to find new approaches, think in new ways, and question received wisdoms.

Practicas

Our weekly Practicas are an institution – they have sustained Auroville Tango through various phrases over the last decade.

Currently, the Practicas start with a half-an-hour guided session before the informal Tango social/practice session. All dancers are welcome. Some come to practice, many come to dance in a relaxed and friendly environment.

Milongas

Each month we hold two regular milongas on the first and third Saturdays.

“Milonga” means “to mingle.” Dancers of all experience levels bring the best they can offer, so they and their partners can enjoy the connection with each other, to the music, and with their fellow dancers.

Building up Intensity

In a young Tango community like that of India, limiting ourselves to the 20-40 dancers in the immediate bioregion is not enough. We have found it important to create regular opportunities to invite dancers from all over the country to dance and learn with us. And so…

Jun – Aug – Dec
The 8th Bootcamp: 20-21 December 2025

The current series of Auroville Tango Bootcamps started in August 2023, continuing a long history of exchanges with Bangalore dancers in the nascent days of both communities.

Over the last seven editions, the Bootcamps have attracted regular participants from the Southern communities and also become a focal point for learning for the instructors and Auroville dancers.

Twice a year we invite teachers from other communities to collaborate on the programme to enrich the learning.

The 2nd Edition: 1-4 October 2026

The 1st Monsoon Bliss – a four-day Tango Marathon took place on 2-5 October, 2025, with an accent on joy and inter-community bonding.

The workshops feature Auroville teachers, along with collaborations with teachers from other communities, along with explorations of bodywork and music.

We organize stay and meals in one location, allowing participants to bond, connect in a relaxed, supportive environment.

The 13th Edition: 11-15 March 2026

Auroville Tango Festivals are still the one event where local teachers from various communities come together to learn as students.

They provide the much needed opportunities for a concentrated dose of external input from international professionals, and we continue the learning through the year.

As the Indian Tango scene grow and more visiting teachers events happen, our Festivals have also evolved to include music performances and cultural activities to broaden the Tango experience.
