WE ARE

Auroville Tango

Auroville Tango is a collective initiative to explore Argentine Tango as an art form and as a vehicle to pursue learning and growth.

Auroville Tango began in 2008 and anchored itself on the Indian Tango map in 2012 with the first Holi Tango Festival. Inspired by Auroville’s spirit of unending education and aspiration for a concrete human unity, it soon became a hub where the many threads of Indian Tango could be gathered and woven together. Over a decade later, Auroville Tango continues to hold space for reflection and renewal. It offers not just festivals and gatherings, but also a platform for dialogue on how Tango in India can grow — responsibly, inclusively, and with creativity at its heart. Since 2012, it has brought together dancers, teachers, musicians, and dreamers to deepen their practice, exchange ideas, and nurture the evolution of Tango in India.

Argentine Tango
in India

For over a decade and a half the budding Indian Tango scene has grown organically, developing in depth & flavour. And this is not just any place… India has long been the motherland of accepting differences, of encouraging the pursuit of the Ideal, and of diversity in oneness.

Apart from a love and dedication to the dance, we have here, and aspiration to create an environment in which collaboration & emulation take precedence over competition & strife; which strikes a balance between open source & financially rewarding & initiatives; which operates on the basis of trust & mutual support through bold debates to fuel growth in our individual & collective tangos. And so we journey… to dance, and to find, perhaps, a form of a unity of purpose & dedication through a diversity of experiences & expressions as we scale up our collective Tango scene.
